These records are recorded plats and descriptions of land in the Northern Neck for which grants were issued by the commonwealth's Land Office after 1786. Marginal notes indicate the date the survey was received into the office as well as the date the grant was issued. Although each volume is indexed, the name listed is not necessarily that of the grantee;it may be that of the person in whose name the survey was returned or of any one of several assignees.
